Observations from the last Trip to Montreal

121807:
I was in Montreal last week and was AGAIN impressed with the depth of work being done by the groups in Univalor and McGill. Univalor folks sat me down and showed me at least 30 new technologies ranging from metamaterials for telephone antennas (which they claim are coming in very strongly in Asia already!) to novel and unique Life Science targets and potential medicines. These folks travel a lot to shows and Bus Dev meetings and I was informed that Didier Laconte, with whom I am developing a very good relationship, will travel to the west coast at least 6 times this year. His travels are not abnormal. These folks present at things like TechConnect, BIO, and World's Best Technologies in Boston and have even won some awards recently. They have really superb web broadcasting facilities at http://techupdateunivalor.wordpress.com/ I was impressed with the short YouTUBE clip there too! They also have links to such great things as flintbox and just seem well plugged in to the 21st century.

McGill is always a thrill to visit. My friend of some three DECADES now- Michael Stern - introduced me to their new Life Sciences team member. Michele Beaulieu is a veteran of SEVERAL great schools in the US and then has had an illustrious career in Novartis before joining the TTO there. ALL of the members of this great team are veterans of the pharma business in one way or the other and it really shows in their projects and the deals that they have been pulling off in the recent past. While I was there I was treated to a tour of the Montreal Neurological Institute. Who would know that in a recent NIH funded consortium to do cutting edge work in Brain Imaging THIS institute (of all the great ones one can think of) was awarded the LEAD role. It is truely the best in the world at what it does I'm told. Congrats folks.
